Qualification Awarded
CCivil Engineer Bachelor Degree
Level of Qualification (Short Cycle , First Cycle , Second Cycle, Third Cycle)
Bachelor
Specific Admission Requirements
Students who have a high school diploma or an equivalent school diploma and get enough relevant field score in the examinations conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and who prefer our department are placed in Nişantaşı University Civil Engineering Department by central method depending on the quotas. Students are also accepted to our department from the 3rd semester through vertical transfer (for associate degree graduates) and literal transfer (both from Civil Engineering departments of other universities and from other departments within our university and accepted by the Civil Engineering department). These transitions are regulated by a directive and students can only transfer between the diploma programs of different higher education institutions or the diploma programs within the same higher education institution within the framework of the previously announced number and transition conditions.
Specific Arrangements For Recognition Of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)
Students can be accepted from institutions whose equivalence is accepted by the High Education Board. Students enrolled in the program may be exempted from the courses they have accomplished in higher education institutions where they previously studied. Students who follow the Optional English Preparatory Class can also choose courses from English programs if they wish. Also; An exemption exam is held at the beginning of each academic year for the Foreign Language course and the courses approved by the Senate and the proposal of the relevant boards. Students who get enough grades from the exemption exam are considered exempt from these courses. On the other hand, all of our students who study at our Faculty of Engineering and Architecture are prepared for real life with the training processes that their seniors will take on-the-job in the relevant sectors that we have contracted in the Spring Semester, as in all our academic units that provide undergraduate education within the scope of our "Professional Practice at Work-IMU" practice, which makes our University different from other universities.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
Students who successfully complete all of the courses in the four-year undergraduate program (equivalent to a minimum of 240 ECTS), achieve a grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00, and complete 40 working days of internship, are awarded a Civil Engineer bachelor diploma.
Profile of The Programme
The Department of Civil Engineering aims to provide its students with all kinds of written and verbal communication skills, as well as the knowledge and practical skills required by the field, in a way that provides a wide variety of career opportunities, with an education program suitable for the latest developments. These aims are to develop and continuously renew a training program tailored to the needs of industry, education and public sectors; secondly, to be included in accreditation and evaluation programs in order to improve national and international recognition, and thirdly, to have a teaching staff consisting of well-known scientists.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
Bachelor degrees of the Civil Engineering Department will take a professional role in both public and private sectors with the civil engineer title and diploma they will have. In many civil and military public institutions that employ civil engineers, as civil engineers, inspectors, assistant inspectors, experts, etc. they take part in positions. As an example to these institutions, all ministries, especially the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, military units under the Ministry of National Defense and Turkish Republic State institutions independent of the departments of the Ministry, such as the Prime Ministry General Directorate of Foundations and the relevant units of the universities, can be shown. Civil engineers are also employed in units such as various non-governmental organizations, private sector organizations operating in the field of construction at home and abroad, and insurance companies. However, civil engineers can work freely in companies that provide contracting and consultancy services; As academic staff, they can work in the relevant units of the universities.
Access to Further Studies
Students who have successfully completed their undergraduate degree can apply for graduate programs of universities. Each university's application requirements may be different. Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can register for graduate programs in their own fields or related fields if they get enough marks from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge.
Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
At least one midterm and final exam are held for each course. Apart from midterm exams, quizzes, projects and other activities deemed appropriate by the instructor can be held. The effect of the final exam on the success grade is determined by 30-70% as deemed appropriate by the instructor. All exams are evaluated over 100 points and relative evaluation system is applied in calculating the success grade of the students. The notes taken in this evaluation are converted into a 4-letter system within the framework of the principles determined in the regulation. Those who have a Weighted Grade Point Average (AGNO) below 2.00 for 2 consecutive semesters cannot take lessons from the next semester. A student must get at least CC letter grade to be considered successful in a course. DC and DD grades taken from a course are evaluated depending on the graduation AGNO of the student. If the student's AGNO is above the passing grade, these courses are defined as successful. In mid-terms / years, these letter grades are evaluated with coefficients in the calculation of the AGNO. An FF grade is given to students who fail the relevant course. Students who receive an FF grade must fulfill the attendance and examination requirements by taking this course in the first semester / year it is given. The courses that are appreciated with success grades M and G are not included in the evaluation in the calculation of AGNO.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from the program, students who successfully complete the courses in the education plan (minimum 240 ECTS) and 70 working days of internship and have a weighted grade average of at least 2.00 and above are entitled to graduate.
